In documents filed before today's hearing, Prade's attorneys argue the new DNA evidence generates questions and reasonable doubt that warrants a new trial. Prosecutors say the new evidence wouldn't change the result of the first trial.

A judge heard arguments Friday afternoon whether a former Akron police captain should get a new trial in the 1997 slaying of his ex-wife. Summit County Common Pleas Judge Christine Croce held a 90-minute hearing today. At the end of today's hearing, Judge Croce said she will issue a written response. She did not give a date but did say it would take longer than a week. Prosecutors said the "new" evidence wasn't new, but was covered and offered to the jury in the original trial, therefore not meeting the burden to grant a new trial. Croce heard arguments in 69-year-old Douglas Prade's case, marking the latest event in a lengthy legal battle.........
